| Chania-Rethimno-Kournas | 
 | Chania is the old capital of Crete and has a distinct Venetian influence with its lovely hurbour and beautiful architecture. Chania is great for shopping and if you are buying presents and souvenirs this excursion is for you.There is the famous Leather Lane, the gold and jewellery shops of Halidon street and the busy Chania market, all a few minutes walk of each other. There is fashion, pottery, artwork, quaint backstreets, Venetian remains and the old harbour with its string of taverns , cafes and bars. Rethymnon with its three minarets mosques and enclosed wooden balconies is definitely more Turkish is character. Rethymnon has a charming old town consisting of a maze of narrow streets. We visit in the late afternoon when the town is just coming awake after the siesta: a very special atmosphere. In between the two towns we make a short break at the peaceful lake Kournas, the only freshwater lake on Crete.Time for a coffee and a quiet chat or a gentle stroll along the lakeside.
